GPA Calculator
Letter-grade GPA on the 4.0 scale with +/− support and credit weighting.
The Standard 4.0 Scale, Done Right
Enter each course with its letter grade and credit hours — we compute a weighted GPA using the standard US 4.0 system (with +/− support). Works for semester GPA, cumulative GPA, or both.
Grade Scale
- A / A+ = 4.0, A− = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7
- D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0
Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated on the 4.0 scale?
Each letter grade maps to a number: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0. Multiply by credits, sum everything, and divide by total credits.
How do +/- grades work?
A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, and so on. Some schools ignore + / − — check your transcript.
What is a good GPA?
Above 3.5 is strong, 3.7+ is excellent. For top US graduate schools, aim for 3.7+; for Ivy League undergrad, typically 3.9+ unweighted.
Cumulative vs semester GPA?
Semester GPA is for one term; cumulative GPA averages every graded course across all terms, weighted by credits. This tool supports both — just enter everything together for cumulative.
