SGPA to Percentage Calculator
Convert a single semester's SGPA to percentage using your university's formula — CBSE/UGC, VTU, Anna, JNTU and more.
One Semester at a Time
SGPA uses the exact same credit-weighted formula as CGPA — sum of (grade points × credits) divided by total credits — but only for the subjects in one semester. Enter just that semester's subjects below, pick your university, and get both the SGPA and its percentage equivalent.
Worked Example
Semester With 5 Subjects
| Subject (credits, grade point) | Contribution |
|---|---|
| Maths (4 cr, 9) | 36 grade-credit points |
| Physics (3 cr, 8) | 24 grade-credit points |
| Chemistry (3 cr, 8) | 24 grade-credit points |
| Lab (2 cr, 10) | 20 grade-credit points |
| Elective (2 cr, 7) | 14 grade-credit points |
Total: 118 grade-credit points ÷ 14 credits = 8.43 SGPA → 8.43 × 9.5 ≈ 80.07% on the CBSE scale.
Same Formulas as CGPA, Applied Per Semester
- CBSE / most UGC colleges: SGPA × 9.5
- VTU: (SGPA − 0.75) × 10
- Anna University, AKTU, Amity: SGPA × 10
- JNTU: (SGPA − 0.5) × 10
Frequently Asked Questions
What is SGPA?
Semester Grade Point Average — the same credit-weighted calculation as CGPA, but for a single semester's subjects only, instead of your entire academic history.
How is SGPA different from CGPA?
SGPA covers one semester. CGPA is the cumulative average across every semester you've completed. Your final CGPA is effectively a credit-weighted average of all your semester SGPAs.
What percentage is a 7.5 SGPA?
On the CBSE ×9.5 standard: 7.5 × 9.5 = 71.25%. On a VTU-style (SGPA − 0.75) × 10 formula: 67.5%. Use the university dropdown above to get the exact formula for your institution.
Is 9 SGPA good?
Yes — 9.0+ is considered excellent in most Indian engineering and university grading systems, generally corresponding to distinction-level performance for that semester.
Can I convert SGPA to CGPA directly?
Not with a single formula — CGPA is the credit-weighted average of all your semester SGPAs, so you need every semester's SGPA and credit count to compute it accurately, not just one semester's number.
Does one bad semester's SGPA ruin my CGPA?
It pulls it down proportionally to that semester's credit share of your total credits — usually a smaller effect than students expect, since CGPA averages across every semester, not just the worst one.
